Data Presentation Workshop or, Really Understanding your Trials and Getting the Most from your Data
10.00 am to 3.00 pm, 18 March 2016
Plant Research Centre, 2b Hartley Grove, Urrbrae SA 5064
The Conundrum
Field trials continue to be an important source of information supporting recommendations to growers and graziers. What is the most effective way of presenting the results of the trials? Some trials also either don’t see out a full season or face seasonal or on-farm disruptions. So what can you do with the data?
This workshop is aimed at helping agricultural consultants and researchers to make the most of data available from trials and to choose the best ways to communicate the results to clients. The workshop assumes a basic understanding of statistics and there will be some pre-workshop reading to refresh existing trial design and analysis knowledge. The workshop will focus on examining real case studies and there will also some time to look at data from your own trials.
The Workshop
Assessing data quality
Identifying and treating outliers, non-normal distributions and consequences, transforming data
Interpretation
Main effects vs interactions, Regression vs correlation, Correlation vs causation, Fitting difference curves – why and how?
Presentation
Deciding what needs to be presented, Separation of means, Tables vs figures, Different figures for different types of data, Figures: clarity and simplicity, Presenting information for technical reports vs talks.
Individual trial data
Participants have the opportunity to work through a set of their own data and potentially prepare a summary suitable for a report and/or presentation either individually or in groups.
Presenters
Our team of presenters can cover trials and data in cropping, livestock, horticulture and crop protection. At the workshop the case studies will be in the areas of interest to those attending. You will be able to advise your interests when we take registrations early in 2016. The workshop numbers will be strictly limited to ensure strong interaction between the presenters and registrants.
